5. CORROSION MONITORING AND MITIGATION; CATHODIC PROTECTION

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This comprehensive corrosion monitoring and mitigation course consists of virtually every aspect of corrosion. The course will enable engineers in the field of corrosion and inspection to establish a strong foothold from the basics of corrosion dealing with the necessary concepts and principles of corrosion, corrosion monitoring, corrosion control and mitigation with a special focus on the corrosion prevalent in refinery. The program is also designed for those involved in failure analysis to update their awareness and appreciation in the field of corrosion. 7. FIRED HEATERS

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This program contains an in-depth discussion of all aspects of fired heater design and operation, including heat transfer principles, combustion fundamentals, factors affecting fired heater efficiencies, burner design and operating parameters as well as stacks and draft control. Refractory applications and heat losses are also covered as are NOX reduction technologies and air preheating systems. A significant portion of the program is devoted to the most effective ways of revamping existing heaters and troubleshooting heater problems. Special operating procedures like soot blowing, steam air decoking, online spalling techniques, preservation of heater tubes by passivation and chemical treatment are also to be covered.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This learning program is designed to provide a clear understanding and the knowledge about theoretical and practical aspects of selection, operation and maintenance of pumps and compressors. Program divided into two sections "Pumps", its classification, centrifugal pumps, their construction, functions of each components, performance curves, NPSH calculations and pump selections; understand cavitations, mechanical seals, API pumps and API flushing plans and application. Another section deals with "Compressors", its classification, centrifugal and reciprocating compressor constructional features, selection of compressor, surging phenomenon and controllers, stalling, knocking, performance curves, online monitoring systems, dry gas seal and its operation, suction valve construction and operation, maintenance checks, alignment etc. It will help in understanding the basics of engineering fundamentals involved in functioning of these equipments and their application.

This program will deal with the theory of compression - ideal gas equation and practical application, isentropic, polytrophic, isothermal compression, calculations mass and volume capacity, discharge temperature, power for compression and characteristic curves; parts of compressors; seals/sealing for compressors; range of working efficiency; capacity control methods and start-up, compressor surge controllers.

Various troubleshooting techniques for better column operation like control of flash point, boiling range, yield, cut point to be discussed. Multi Variable Process Control (MVPC) will also be touched upon.

15. PINCH TECHNOLOGY (INTERNAL HEAT OPTIMIZATION)

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This course is designed to help the participants to get familiarization with the followings:- 1. Heat exchangers for Refinery application: Design concept, principles, specialty and methodology for various services. 2. Heat exchanger preheats network synthesis based on Pinch Technology: It is a thermodynamically based method that guarantees minimum energy/ temperature levels in design of heat exchanger preheat networks. The preheat exchanger network synthesis aims to optimize heat recovery from various hot streams available in a complex refinery process, based on Pinch technology principles. Finally, the pinch point temperature differential of the energy recovery network is finalized based on prevailing energy cost and Heat Exchanger Network (HEN) capital cost, by means of pay back analysis. It essentially predicts, ahead of the design, the minimum requirements of external heating energy, cooling utility and the number of units for heat exchangers, with the ultimate objective of minimizing the total costs by better integration of heat processes. 3. Other critical heat transfer equipments for Refinery application: Specialty in design, operation and maintenance.

19. ADVANCE TRAINING ON HYDROTREATMENT TECHNOLOGY

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This program will provide thorough technical understanding of hydrotreatment technology covering hydrotreatment process schemes. The facilitator will deal with chemistry of hydrotreatment .i.e thermodynamics and kinetics of desired and undesired reactions. Focus is also given on catalyst mechanism, characteristics, poisoning including catalyst sulphiding, hot H2 stripping. Operating variables and their significance with respect to WABT, H2 partial pressure, LHSV, H2/HC , H2S Partial pressure, Feed quality will also be discussed. Troubleshooting with respect to Feedstock checking, H2 checking, Catalyst checking, Channeling/Pressure drop, Catalyst deactivation and normalization will also be discussed.
